Jos – Determined to heal long-standing divisions and rebuild trust among its diverse communities, Plateau State is preparing for the 2025 Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival, an event Governor Caleb Mutfwang describes as a powerful instrument for restoring social cohesion and reaffirming the shared identity of the Plateau people.
The governor made the remarks during an inspection tour of ongoing preparations at the Ten Commandments Prayer Altar, Du, Jos South, where the three-day programme will take place.
Governor Mutfwang said the initiative forms part of his administration’s commitment to nurturing unity and strengthening communal ties across the State.
According to him, the festival offers residents an opportunity to come together in gratitude and reflection, breaking barriers and re-establishing bonds strained over time.
He expressed confidence that this year’s edition would evolve into one of Plateau’s most influential platforms for fostering peace and mutual understanding.
The Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Samuel Jatau, affirmed that preparations have reached an advanced stage, and announced that the festival will hold from Friday, 28 to Sunday, 30 November 2025, beginning daily at 3:30 p.m.
The programme, he added, has been carefully designed to uplift spirits, celebrate diversity, and highlight God’s enduring love and protection over the state.
Notable dignitaries expected at the event include former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon; former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; and the Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa. Former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr Paul Enenche, among others.
The festival will also feature performances by celebrated gospel artistes such as Sinach, Buchi, Uche and Loretta, alongside the Kungiyan Nasari Choir from Katsina. Choirs from Abuja, denominational groups, women’s fellowships, and ensembles from Plateau are also slated to participate.
Brigadier General Gakji Shipi, who spoke on security arrangements, assured the public that comprehensive measures had been put in place to safeguard attendees.
He noted that designated parking areas would be fully secured and that crowd management and transportation logistics have been carefully planned to ensure a safe and seamless experience.
Organisers of the children’s Bible quiz and recitation competition have completed the final stages of the contest, involving participants aged three to eighteen. Winners across the various categories will receive prizes and plaques from Governor Mutfwang at the closing ceremony.
