A foundation known as Voice of Single Mothers Foundation (VOSMF), has announced plans to celebrate impact-making women in Nigeria as part of activities marking the 2026 International Women’s Day.

According to the organizers, the maiden edition of the event tagged Power Awards, is scheduled for March 8, 2026 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Lead Executive of VOSMF, Rev. Aisha Galadima, said the awards would spotlight exceptional female leaders whose contributions continue to shape society.

According to her, the initiative “is a mission-driven platform aimed at empowering and uplifting women, especially single mothers.”

She said the event “is designed to echo global advocacy efforts by the United Nations, ECOSOC, CSW, and other international bodies committed to women’s advancement”.

“Power Awards is a celebration of strength, achievement, and commitment to making a difference,” she said.

“We are excited to spotlight these incredible leaders and channel the event’s energy into tangibly supporting single mothers to build brighter futures.”

She further explained that the event “is crafted to go beyond glamour, serving as a bold reminder of the vast potential and indispensability of women across sectors career, innovation, entrepreneurship, health, medicine, arts, and beyond.”

Contributing, Ibim Isaacs, a top film and media executive and Project Manager of the Power Awards, described the ceremony as both symbolic and revolutionary:

She said:“The days of the woman are here. Women are building homes and systems, influencing culture and trends they can no longer be ignored.

“The Power Awards is a mirror and a torch. The winners reflect what we want the next generation of women to be, and we shine a light on the importance of every woman’s undisturbed presence in our society.”

Project Director and African cultural relevance advocate Justice Ogaranya Slik, said the event would help spur more women into enterprising ventures.

“Power Awards is a movement; a call, a loud reminder to the global family to place deeper value on the girl child.

Women play a vital role in shaping society, culture, and citizenship. This platform reminds women of who they are beyond labels the world gives them.”

She noted that “VOSMF remains committed to tackling the stigma associated with single motherhood while championing issues such as child abandonment, healthcare access, education, and women’s rights.”

Abel Okweku, DGN, President of VOSMF, urged women to aspire for leadership positions for better society.

“It is my dream that we will one day see female governors and a female president. But before that dream becomes reality, we must intentionally celebrate the priceless efforts of women who are making the path easier for those coming behind them.”

She said the event “is meant to celebrate resilience, brilliance, and transformative influence of women.”
