Lagos, Nigeria’s leading cultural and entertainment hub, is set to host the maiden Lagos Culture Week, a two-day celebration designed to showcase the city’s rhythms, flavours, fashion, art and dynamic creative energy.
Organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in partnership with the Lagos Cultural Mission, the event will begin fr6 Nov. 30 Dec. 1 at Victoria Island.
According to the statement on Tuesday, the event will take place at Nahous Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, at 9.00 a.m., while ‘See Lagos, See Culture’ will take place on Monday at the same venue from 6.00p.m.
Speaking on the upcoming celebration, the Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Idris Aregbe, said the initiative captures the unique cultural identity and evolving creative expression of Lagosians.
“Lagos is stepping out in full colour as we unveil Lagos Culture Week vibrant celebration of our roots, rhythms, flavours, fashion, art and limitless creative spirit
“Detty December just got louder, prouder and more cultural!” he said.
Aregbe said the festival would reflect the fusion of tradition and modernity that defines Lagos.
“This is where tradition meets the now, and where Lagos shows the world that culture isn’t just preserved it is lived, remixed and celebrated with pride,” he said.
He added that Lagos has evolved into a multidimensional cultural capital beyond music and film.
“Lagos is no longer about music and films alone. The city is also known for culture, arts, food, fashion and many other things,” he said.
The special adviser said that the goal of Culture Week was to position Lagos as a premium destination for holidaymakers preparing for the Detty December season.
“We want to use Lagos Culture Week to re-echo that as people are preparing for December, they should also plan for some of our best action, music, movies, culture and arts,” he said.
“We want people to come and experience the energy, feel the heritage and taste the soul of the city. This December, Lagos isn’t just vibing Lagos means business, ” Aregbe said.
