The Lagos State House of Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (State), PAC, will commence deliberations on the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report as part of renewed efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources.

Speaking, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Kehinde Joseph, disclosed during a press briefing at the Assembly Complex, stressing that the oversight responsibility of the legislature remains critical to ensuring that Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, deliver value for public funds.

Joseph noted that Sections 125 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) empower the Committee to review government accounts, summon individuals, and demand documents necessary for its investigations. He emphasised that the process is aimed at reinforcing best practices, not witch-hunting.

“As we begin the deliberations on the 2024 audited report, heads of indicted MDAs will be invited to clarify issues raised. We expect full cooperation and transparency from all parties,” he said. “Our goal is to identify weaknesses, strengthen systems, and ensure that Lagosians enjoy the benefits of effective governance.”

According to him, the Committee will scrutinise capital expenditure to verify alignment with approved budgets, assess project management practices, review fixed asset registers, and examine abandoned projects to ensure value for money.

He added that the exercise forms a vital part of the Assembly’s commitment to deepening good governance and meeting the expectations of Lagos residents. “We are committed to a Lagos that is prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable,” Joseph said.

The PAC Chairman expressed appreciation to the Speaker, Mr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, for his support and leadership, which he described as instrumental to the Committee’s work. He also commended PAC members for their diligence and dedication to transparency and accountability.

Joseph urged all stakeholders to support the process, noting that collective effort is required to build a Lagos State that stands as a model of good governance in Nigeria.
