An Igbo Socio-cultural organisation, Ndigbo Unity Forum, has urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in 10 Northern states, following the growing insurgency claiming lives and property of many citizens in those states.

In a statement signed by its president, Augustine Chukwudum, the states listed are Borno, Gombe, Kano, Yobe, Kaduna, Plateau, Sokoto, Niger, Adamawa and Taraba.

The group stressed that in tackling security challenges facing the nation, the Federal Government should  declared state of emergency in the 10 listed states.

“That is the only way the government of President Goodluck Jonathan will win the war against terrorists because Nigerians are tired of excuses which the PDP-led Federal Government is giving on his failure to tackle terrorism in Nigeria” the statement added.

Ndigbo Unity Forum stated that over five thousand innocent Nigerians have lost their lives since the insurgency bulged and property worth over one billion naira has so far been destroyed.

“Terrorists are killing people on daily bases, all President Jonathan will do is to tell Nigeria that he knows the people who do it and no serious action has been taken against them” it said, noting that the president was able to declare state of emergency only on Local Government.

The Igbo Socio-cultural organization further noted in its statement that budget implementation has been less than Fifty percent (50%), saying “by doing so the government deprived Nigerians economic benefit. Less than thirty percent of our yearly budget goes to capital expenditure while over seventy percent goes to recurrent expenditure.

“Today in Nigeria all the Federal roads are death trap and nothing is been done by the PDP led Federal Government to Rehabilitate or Reconstruct, all these roads that needs immediate attention throughout the country. The same thing also happens to all the four Refineries in the country none of them is working, despite billions of naira claimed to have spent on it by the past PDP  led Federal Government under Olusegun Obasanjo doing what it called turning around maintenance (T.A.M) yet fuel is still imported.”
