Senator Halliru Dauda Jika, former representative of Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly, has been named one of the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) for 2025. The award was presented in New York, United States, on 11 November 2025, by a delegation led by Mr Olutope Esan, Co-Founder of MIPAD.

During the presentation, Mr Esan lauded Senator Jika as a “true embodiment of unwavering commitment to his people and the nation.” He noted that MIPAD had carefully selected outstanding individuals across Africa for the 2025 recognition, highlighting Senator Jika’s achievements as particularly noteworthy. Other honourees included prominent leaders and industry captains from both public and private sectors across the continent.

MIPAD annually celebrates the accomplishments of people of African descent during the United Nations General Assembly. The initiative recognises individuals who have made transformative contributions locally, nationally, and globally. It aligns with the International Decade for People of African Descent, promoting recognition, justice, and development. Previous honourees include high-profile personalities such as Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry, reflecting the award’s prestige and global reach.

Senator Jika is widely recognised as a climate change advocate and promoter of youth empowerment. In the 9th Senate, he chaired the Senate Committee on Police Affairs and was the only federal legislator from Bauchi State to rank among the Top 10 Senators on the productivity index during the Assembly’s mid-term review.

His legislative record is extensive, with sponsorship and co-sponsorship of bills that continue to impact millions, particularly in Nigeria’s North East. Key accomplishments include the landmark review of the 40-year-old Police Act, the establishment of the Police Academy and its campus in Kafin Madaki, and the creation of the North East Development Commission legislation. Beyond legislation, his initiatives have delivered multiple police posts, schools, water projects, and primary healthcare centres, leaving a lasting impact on communities across Bauchi State.

Receiving the MIPAD award, Senator Jika dedicated the honour to his constituents and the people of Bauchi State, expressing gratitude for their trust and support. He reaffirmed his commitment to empowering youth and women and pledged to continue his work in fostering development and national progress.

Senator Jika’s recognition underscores his enduring legacy as a public servant whose influence resonates beyond Nigeria, marking him as one of the continent’s most impactful leaders of African descent.
