The efforts of the Governor Olusegun Mimiko-led government in Ondo State at repositioning the state’s education sector has recorded another major boost with Master Akinboboye Akinwande, a JSS 3 student in the state, emerging the overall winner of the 2012 Edition of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) National Quiz Competition.
A student of Greater Tomorrow College, Arigidi –Akoko, Master Akinwande represented Ondo State at the National Quiz Competition held in Enugu, Enugu State and emerged the overall winner.
Akinwande was at a ceremony recently, presented to the State Government by members of the Executive Council of the State’s ANCOPSS, at the office of the State’s Commissioner for Education, Barr. Remi Olatubora.
At the event, the Commissioner noted that the intervention of the present administration in the state’s education sector is yielding results both in the state’s public and private schools where the state’s Ministry of Education is maintaining standards.
The commissioner noted that a former student of St Louis Secondary School, Ondo, Miss Tolulope Falokun had recently made the state proud by emerging the Best Student in West Africa in the 2011 West African School Certificate Examination after recording nine A1s in the nine subjects she sat for in the examinations.
Olatubora who described the ceremony as one of the happiest moments of the Governor Mimiko led government affirmed that the State Government has invested massively in education in the last three years.
“We have invested massively in education in the last three years .We have put a lot of recourses into the enforcement of standard in our schools including private schools” the Commissioner reported.
He noted that Master Akinwale’s school is one of the private schools that have consistently complied with government’s standards for education in the state.
He further charged schools administrators in the state to continue to maintain the standards set by the government and observe strictly all rules and regulations set out by the State Government for the development of the state’s education sector.
Earlier in his address, the Ondo State President of All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary School (ANCOPSS), Chief A A Aladeseye who described the event as a celebration of excellence appreciated Governor Mimiko for being the facilitator of the new drive towards excellence in education in Ondo State.
Aladeseye noted that Ondo State is a state noted for academic excellence adding that the state has produced 10 out of Nigeria‘s 60 National Merit Awards Winners for Academic Excellence.
“With the massive renovation and construction works that are going on in our schools right now, coupled with the novel idea of Caring Heart Mega Schools, Ondo State is on the march again towards occupying the pinnacle of academic excellence in Nigeria” the ANCOPSS president said.
