Nsukka—THERE is anxiety in Enugu State, following alleged delay in delivery of judgement on the validity or otherwise of Governor Sullivan Chime’s nomination as the ruling People’s Democratic Party’s, PDP, candidate for the 2011 election.

Judgement in the pre-elction matter between two former governorship aspirants in the PDP,  Alex Obiechina and Anayo Onwuegbu on one hand and Governor Chime on the other, was originally scheduled for April 23, after several other postponement but was again adjourned sine die by Justice Adamu Bello, causing anxiety that the 90 days deadline allowed for judgement after final addresses had been adopted would soon elapse, thus denying the litigants justice.

According to court rules, judgement on all matters filed in court, either through originating summons, petition or writ of summons must be delivered within 90 days after the final addresses by counsel, unless the presiding judge asks for fresh adoption of such addresses at the expiration of the 90 days statutory period.

The political tussle in the state started in 2010, following disagreement between the governor and the former National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, over the chairmanship of Nwodo’s political ward in Ukehe, Igboetiti Local Government.
