Gubernatorial hopeful and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Dr Mashood Wasiu Abiola, has reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising the welfare and development of teachers in Oyo State if elected in the forthcoming election.
Speaking in the wake of World Teachers’ Day, Dr Abiola acknowledged the critical role teachers play in national development, describing them as key drivers of civilisation and technological advancement.
In a press statement released to journalists on Monday, he said, “Teachers are the foundation of every profession. Without their dedication, we would have no doctors, engineers, nurses, architects or any of the skilled professionals that keep society running.”
Abia expressed concern over the poor working conditions many teachers in Nigeria face, particularly in areas of remuneration, training, and career growth.
He promised to implement reforms that would provide better salaries, capacity-building opportunities, and improved welfare packages.
“I have travelled widely and seen how teachers are respected and supported in other parts of the world. We can do the same here in Oyo State. Our teachers deserve better, not just in words, but in real policies and actions,” he said.
The gubernatorial hopeful stressed that education would be a top priority in his administration, vowing to raise the standard of the teaching profession and ensure it receives the recognition it deserves.
He, however, called on the people of the state to support a leadership that places education and teacher empowerment at the heart of development.
