Contrary to speculations making the round that an explosion ripped off part of  Cargo Wing of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has confirmed that nothing of such happened.

Reacting to the rumours, the General Manager, Public Affairs, FAAN, Mr. Akin Olukunle stressed that there was nothing like a bomb explosion at the airport.

He confirmed that there was a loud noise which passengers as well as other airport users took for a bomb blast as they started running to safety.

According to him, the noise emanated from the equipment of police anti-bomb unit while trying to check unattended bag at the baggage reclaim area, stressing that it was not a bomb blast at all.

A text message sent to our correspondent by Olukunle reads; “The noise heard by people was from the equipment used by the police bomb squad to open an unattended bag. The bag was left by a passenger who arrived on a flight from the UK.”

It will be recalled that at about 9 p.m yesterday, a loud sound was heard at the Cargo Wing of MMIA causing panic and confusion among passengers, and other airport users who took it for a bomb.

It was gathered that a particular passenger arriving from London abandoned his luggage at the baggage reclaim area, which drew the attention of the security personnel attached to the airport who immediately went into action to ascertain the contents of the luggage.
