UGHELLI—BISHOP of Ughelli Diocese, Church of Nigeria, (Anglican Communion) Rt. Rev. Cyril Odutemu, has expressed worry that the unprovoked attacks on Christians by the Islamic sect may result to anarchy in the country, if not properly addressed.

Speaking at the 3rd session of the 5th Synod of the Diocese of Ughelli at Orhuwhorun, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Odutemu said there would be no cure to the political and financial corruption that is bedeviling the country until the judiciary was purged of corruption.

Lamenting that the Islamic sect had marked out all important Christian festivals for attacks, he stressed the need for government and security agencies to step up effort towards tackling the upsurge of terrorism in the country.

According to him, corruption was a virus that had stalled development in Nigeria over the years, adding that government over the years had only paid lip service to issue of corruption.

He said: “they are the actual corruption agents that had infested the judiciary with the virus that has incapacitated the institution and turned the institution into a national stamp to legalise all the illegalities that are going on in the country.”

Enjoining Christians to be wary of those they keep as business partners and security guards, so as not to be caught in the web of the onslaughts of the Islamic sect, the clergy charge them to be prepared for the second coming of Christ.
