LAGOS – A 35-year-old man, Femi Bejide, who claimed to be a medical doctor, has been remanded in Ikoyi Prison,Lagos, by an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, after he was arraigned for allegedly administering fake drugs that killed one Blessing Friday.
The accused’s plea was not taken as Magistrate M. Olajuwon noted that the court has no jurisdiction to try the case and that the matter required the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
According to the prosecutor, Mr Emmanuel Essien, the accused, on February 12, 2012, killed Friday as a result of the drug he gave her to use.
Essien said: “The deceased, who complained of malaria to the defendant, died after she used the fake drugs given to her by the defendant,” adding that the accused owned a clinic known as Shasha Medical Centre.
He told the court that the accused lives in Shasha, Idimu, Lagos, and that the alleged offence contravened Section 231 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
