ABUJA—National Population Commission, NPC, has said the success of the introduction of a cashless society by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, will depend heavily on a strong and virile national data base.

Director-General of NPC, Mr. Jamin Zubema, who stated this while receiving the Statistician-General of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Kale, in his office in Abuja, regretted that there was very low utilisation of data in the country.

According to him, NPC conducted a national population and housing census in 2006, out of which more than 75,000 priority tables had been generated, adding that with more funding, more tables could be generated.

Zubema said the NPC had in its possession an enormous amount of data obtained through censuses and sample surveys, but regretted that the low utilisation of data in the country had been a major cause for concern.
