The pilot edition of Greensprings/Kanu Football Camp will be open to Nigerian youths from all nooks and crannies of the country, the school authorities have said.

At a media briefing held at the school’s premises in Lekki yesterday, the director of Greensprings Schools Mrs Lai-Koiki said the football camp was “open to all Nigerians between the ages of 10 and 15.

Interested students are expected to enroll online,” adding that the camp which holds between July 1 and 7 at the Lekki campus of the school was designed as a “further demonstration of Greensprings’ commitment to the total development of the Nigerian youth.”

Former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu who is working in partnership with the school on the project said he was impressed by the facilities put in place for the programme, pleading his unalloyed commitment to its success.

“This is the first grassroots development project I am identifying with in Nigeria and I can assure you that we will succeed. This is a Greensprings project and we have identified with it because we want to see to the evolution of a football culture in Nigeria.

Everybody talks about the falling standard of Nigerian football looking up and nobody looks at the grass. We want to look at the grassroots and develop the game from there.”
