A one-day National conference on sustainable alternative material to road construction will hold in Lagos on Thursday. The conference is being organised by the Cement Manufacturers Association of Nigeria CMAN in partnership with Business Day Media Limited, publishers of Business Day Newspapers, and Prize Communications Limited.

The conference with the theme ‘exploring sustainable cement-based option for road construction in Nigeria’ also aims at facilitating the sharing and exchange of knowledge on the innovative solutions of concrete pavement as an alternative for road construction projects in the country.

A statement signed by Amadi Iheukwumere, Business Day’s Conference Manager, notes that currently, roads are constructed using asphalt based technology with the attendant challenges bordering on longevity, durability, maintenance and sustainability.

“Over the decades, there has not been any debate about the technology and methods used in constructing roads in Nigeria. Yet, across the world, the alternative provided by cement-based concrete pavement technology is helping to solve the problems posed by the use of other methods such as Asphalt”, he stated.
