OSUN State Government is set to sponsor 98 Clinical Students of the College of Medicine of the Osun State University, UNIOSUN, to complete their medical studies in the Karazin University in Ukraine on scholarship.

The programme, expected to last for two years, would cost the government not less than N146 million for the training.
Governor Rauf Aregbesola disclosed this in Osogbo, weekend during a meeting with the Concerned Parents of Medical Students in UNIOSUN, saying that the government would foot all the bills that would be required for the two years programme abroad.

The students, who were in their year three, four and five were said to have been stagnated in their studies for the past three years and could not continue their medical training because non-accredited teaching hospital at UNIOSUN.
where they could be trained to become qualified doctors.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Deputy Governor, Otunba Titilayo Laoye-Tomori, said that the government of the state had an arrangement with the medical university in Ukraine to absorb the students into year four, meaning they would spend only two years to become qualified medical doctors.

The deputy governor said: “The cost for each student for the training is about $7,000, but the only cost that the parent would cater for is the money for feeding and upkeep of the students. It means that the government will be parting with not less than N146 million for the two years programme”.
