A Sharia court in Gusau, Zamfara state capital yesterday sentenced a 30-year old man, to 8 months in prison and twenty strokes of the cane for alleged rape of 5-year old girl.

The suspect, Bilyamin Shera’u, according to police first information report, FIR, had been charged for criminal force on a girl with intent to violate her contrary to section 268 of the penal code law.

His arraignment, the police prosecutor Hamisu Gusau said followed the suspect luring of the victim, a 5-year old Nasaiba Usman to indecently assault her in an isolated area and in the process ejaculated on the girl’s external genitalia.

The suspect had reportedly lured the girl, while the biological father of  the girl, Usman Alhassan was reportedly away to his working place.

When the FIR was read to the suspect, he pleaded guilty.

Presiding judge, Abubakar Tukur said medical report from the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau though revealed no trauma  to any part of the body and the external genitalia appeared normal, the offence according to him is contrary to sections 224 and 226 of sharia law of Zamfara State.
