Ogun State House of Assembly has passed not less than 120 resolutions and  30 bills  at its  185 sittings  since last year June when it   commenced legislative work.

This was disclosed by  Speaker of the   state  House of  Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi, during an interaction with newsmen shortly after  the launch  of constituency office and empowerment programme  in Ayetoro, the Headquarters of Yewa North Local Government area of the state .

Adekunbi stated that  the Assembly  would continue to join forces with the executive arm through quality legislation to tackle poverty, improve the quality of education and create enabling environment for business to thrive in the state.

”In addition to giving our people a purposeful and responsive Legislative representation in the House of Assembly and quest for social re-engineering.

” I promise to pursue with vigour the financial freedom of our teeming population by scaling up the magnitude of our empowerment programmes in subsequent years,” he said.

Adekunbi  however  urged  State and the Federal Governments to pay more attention to the plights of his Yewa North constituency where limestones  are mined.

According to him, Yewa North is still trapped in the “shackles of penury and squalor which have perennially emasculated a sizable number of the people.”

”The people of Yewa North in the Gateway State deserve to enjoy quality life in all ramifications given their significant contributions to the socio- economic fortune of the state and that of the country.

”Yewa North in Ogun State is endowed with abundant natural resources such as limestones which have attracted enormous investments and turnover.

”Considering the significant input of the area to state and national development, you cannot agree less with me that the great people of Yewa north deserve nothing short of  a good living standard,” Adekunbi said.

He noted that the people also deserve quality representation in governance and urged lawmakers representing the area at State and National Assemblies to strive towards attracting development andgovernments attention to the area.
He however pledged to emancipate his people form the shackles  of penury which he said had emasculated a sizeable number of the people.

He  further stated that   he   purchased NECO forms  through his foundation for students in the  council area was in fulfilment of his electioneering campaign promises in 2011 when he was seeking themandate of his people.

He said ‘’I solemnly pledged to myself to spare no effort in emancipating my people form the shackles and manacles of penury and squalor which have perennially emasculated a sizeable number of thepeople through various sustainable empowerment initiatives.

While stressing that governance should not be left in the hands of government alone, Adekunbi commended the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun whom he said had decimated poverty across the state.

The programme also include donation of plastic drums for food processors, motorycles, cash and food gifts to widows and aged citizens, sewing threads and lubricating oil among several others
