Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has called on the Federal Government to take over payment of primary schools teachers’ salaries to reduce the financial burden on local governments across the country.
He told newsmen in Asaba that such a move would lay a solid foundation for effective development at the grassroots, adding that the major problem confronting the local councils was the payment of primary school teachers’ salaries which has hindered meaningful development at that level.
On the slow pace of work by some contractors in Delta State, the Speaker said it was not the fault of Delta State Government, but the contractors who collect mobilisation fees and abandon their work.
He said the legislature had been able to checkmate such contractors through unscheduled visits to their sites for proper assessments of jobs.
