The Federal government’s visitation panel assigned to the Federal Technical College, Omoku in Rivers state has disclosed that the panel is 80 percent gone into its investigation of the college even  as government promises to implement the report of the panel to the latter.

Chairman of the panel, Dr Mohammed Abdu during the inspection visit of the Minister of state for education, Barr Nyesom Wike to the college in Rivers state yesterday, ssid the panel would submit is report shortly.

Dr. Abdu said,  “We are now about 80 percent through in our assignments since we have assembled reports and are now at the level of vetting out the report for final clean copy to be signed and delivered to you. We have received 60 memoranda, interviewed those who presented memoranda and took time. In carrying out intensive site visits to the establishment and projects of the College”

In his response, education Minister while addressing the panel told them to ensure that their report is comprehensive and devoid of witch-hunting and independent of any influence.

”Our inspection of Ministry of education’s projects is to ascertain the position and state of those projects and the visitation panel is not to witch-hunt but to look at the challenges in the college and see how those challenges can be addressed. It is not business as usual where report are submitted and dumped in the garbage. We promise to implement to the latter all recommendations in the report”

He advised the college to make massive use of its 600 hectares of land rather than allow grass to take a chunk of the land, suggesting to the college to grow trees around the plain land in order to beautify the environment. He however promised that federal government would support the college in terms of finance.

Also speaking, Oba Chukwuemela Nnam Obi 2, the Oba of Ogbaland, Rivers state hoped that the federal government would attend to the wishes of the people of Rivers state to upgrade the College to degree awarding institution.

He commended the education minister for carrying out his duties diligently as a proud son of the state.
