Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso of Kano State says the on-going efforts by his administration to purge the civil service in the state will reposition the service for better performance.

The governor, who spoke while receiving the state leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), said the purge would rid the state of ghost workers and pensioners.

According to him, it is important for workers in the state to cooperate with the government to ensure better service.

“Government is always willing to give civil servants salaries, emoluments and other things capable of ensuring a good working environment that will fast-track service delivery,’’ he said.

Kwankwaso said his administration had re-introduced car loan scheme, begun the payment of the N18, 000 minimum wage and provided houses for boarding secondary school teachers, among others.

He, however, commended the civil servants in the state, saying: “there is still need for improvement.’’

The governor urged the NLC and the office of the state Head of Civil Service to mobilise workers to put in their best to move the state forward. (NAN)
