BENIN CITY – THE outgoing Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Professor Darlington Obaseki said his prioritising of staff welfare gave him eight years of leadership of the hospital without any industrial crisis.

Besides,  he said 90 percent of the goals he set when he took office in 2017 were achieved.

The CMD, whose eight years tenure would end on Sunday, August 17th stated this at an interactive session with media practitioners and the leadership of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He said “One of the greatest achievements in my tenure is that for eight continuous years, there has never been a single industrial action in UBTH  and this boils  down to the fact that the staffs are generally happy and there is harmony in the work place.

“In specific measurable terms, ninety percent of goals we itemized in 2017 have been achieved with the help of what is called Strategic Reform Plan that is anchored on  the triple mandate which include to threat patients, to train  health care workers and to train staffs.

“We specifically focused on the first one which is to make sure we treat and manage our patients efficiently. I  am a proud and fulfilled man because I am leaving UBTH far better than I met it because where we are now, among the committee of  Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria, we are definitely counted among the best “.

He also said that the management has ensured regular capacity development of staffs and facilities to meet up with the demands.

There was a facility tour around UBTH which was led by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee; UBTH , Dr. Okunbo Stanley.
