In a remarkable debut year, Divine Mercy American International Academy (DMAIA), a new day and boarding secondary school in Ochicha, Obike Ngor Okpala, Imo State, has announced several groundbreaking achievements, including the unveiling of an on-campus hospital, the award of 85 scholarships, and a newly formed partnership with Lincoln University in the United States.
At the heart of these milestones is the launch of the Divine Mercy Medical Center, a fully operational healthcare facility located within the school campus. Designed to provide prompt and professional medical care, the center is a significant step in ensuring the health and well-being of students in a secure and accessible environment.
Reinforcing its commitment to educational accessibility, the academy also announced the award of 85 scholarships in its first academic year.
The initiative supports promising students and reflects DMAIA’s mission to invest in academic excellence and expand learning opportunities for young people across Nigeria.
Expanding its vision beyond national borders, DMAIA has formalized a partnership with Lincoln University, USA.
The collaboration is aimed at creating academic linkages and opening up future pathways for students interested in international education.
The school, which follows the Nigerian National Policy on Education, offers a comprehensive curriculum covering core subjects such as English, Mathematics, and the Sciences. With an emphasis on STEM education, the academy includes ICT, Design Technology, and Trade/Entrepreneurship, alongside Humanities, Arts, Physical Education, and a multi-language program that includes Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, and French.
Founded by a Catholic priest and guided by a board that includes American-based professors, DMAIA boasts modern learning and living facilities. These include science laboratories, a dedicated library, secure dormitories, sports facilities, and classrooms built to support interactive learning. The campus is monitored with CCTV for added security.
The academy offers structured boarding that fosters independence, discipline, and personal growth, with a strong focus on building a diverse and supportive student community. Daily meals are balanced and tailored to meet students’ nutritional needs.
DMAIA’s mission remains rooted in nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped for global engagement. As the institution closes its inaugural year, it does so not only with pride in its achievements but also with a clear focus on shaping the future of education in Nigeria.
