The new contractor for the 52-kilometre Oyo-Ogbomoso dual carriageway project, JRB Construction Company Ltd, has pledged to complete the project ahead of its September 2026 deadline.

While speaking with newsmen during a media briefing on the Technical Project Manager for JRB, Joseph Onche, explained that the company commenced work immediately after being awarded the contract in March, following the termination of the previous contractor.

According to him, the entire project spans 53 kilometers, with JRB tasked to finish the remaining 36 kilometers within 18 months.

“We mobilised to the site as soon as we received the contract in March,” Onche stated. “After three months of work, we are confident we will complete the project well before the 18-month timeline.”

Onche emphasised that JRB has actively conducted investigations to assess the current status of the project, enabling them to effectively address critical issues.

He reassured the public that indigenous construction companies possess the capability to deliver high-quality road projects.

“While there may be skeptics, we have faith in our abilities and the expertise of our qualified engineers,” he added.

Engr. Ajmal Khan, the project manager for JRB, echoed the sentiments, assuring residents of Ogbomoso and all motorists using the Oyo-Ogbomoso route that the company is committed to constructing a durable and high-quality road.

In his remark, the Federal Controller of Works in Oyo State, Victor Aina, confirmed that JRB is adhering to all specifications and regulations.

“The project is being executed in strict compliance with the engineering standards and specifications set forth by the Federal Ministry of Works,” Aina stated.

He noted that all construction materials, including lateritic sub-base, undergo rigorous laboratory testing and on-site verification before approval, in line with the ministry’s standards.

The Oyo-Ogbomoso section of the Ibadan-Ilorin Road is a vital link between the southwestern and northern regions of Nigeria.

On February 20, the Federal Government terminated the previous contract with Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) to expedite the project’s completion.

Minister of Works Sen. David Umahi emphasised President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to resolving the challenges faced by haulage trailers transporting goods between the North and Lagos, as well as improving conditions for all road users.

Motorists have expressed gratitude for the government’s decision to advance the project, which has faced significant delays.

In respective interviews, Commercial drivers Sola Olugbode and Azeez Muritala praised President Tinubu for his actions aimed at completing the road.

Olugbode highlighted the dangers posed by the road’s poor condition, which has resulted in numerous accidents.

Muritala noted that the project’s completion would facilitate smoother transportation for traders moving goods between the North and South.

Additionally, commercial motorcycle operators Mr. Jude Alabi and Isiaka Adeleke expressed their relief, stating that the completion of the road would significantly reduce accidents and enhance safety for all road users.
