Nigeria joined the global community on Thursday to mark World Refrigeration Day 2025, with a strong call for safer, climate-friendly, and professional cooling practices across the country.
The event, held in Abuja, was jointly organised by the Sustainable Research and Action for Environmental Development (SRADev) and the Nigerian Association of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Practitioners (NARAP) to highlight the critical role of refrigeration in health, food security, and environmental sustainability.
Speaking during a media briefing, Executive Director of SRADev, Dr. Leslie Adogame, described refrigeration and air-conditioning technicians as key players in Nigeria’s transition to low-emission cooling technologies.
He called for better recognition of the sector, capacity building, and inclusion of NARAP in national policy discussions.
He said, “I never knew there was a World Refrigeration Day until NARAP brought it to our attention; Now, we are fully committed to helping amplify their voice and professionalise the sector.”
Dr. Adogame also disclosed plans to train NARAP members on reducing emissions from harmful refrigerants under an ongoing national project.
President of NARAP, Ahmed Ibrahim, said the group remains committed to best practices and energy efficiency in line with Nigeria’s climate goals.
“We appreciate the Federal Government and UNIDO for their support, and we thank SRADev for standing with us in building a sustainable future,” he said.
The global theme for this year is “Cool Careers”, promoting skills development in refrigeration and air-conditioning, a sector increasingly important to climate resilience and public health.
