ABUJA — The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has expelled Sukubo Saraigbe Sukubo, a former factional leader of the Council, over multiple allegations including illegal factionalization, impersonation, perjury, forgery, and financial misconduct.

The Council has also officially named Ambassador Solomon Adodo as the new President of the unified NYCN.

The decision was announced during an emergency National Management Meeting of the Council held on June 13, 2024, where NYCN leaders emphasized the need to restore integrity and cohesion within the organization.

In a press briefing, Rt. Hon. Comrade Riki Nwajiofor, Acting Secretary General of the NYCN, stated that Sukubo’s expulsion followed a formal petition from the Rivers State chapter and was backed by the provisions of Article 9.1 and Article 23.3, Section 3, Subsections (i) & (iv) of the NYCN Constitution (2018 as amended).

“Sukubo Saraigbe has been officially expelled from the Council following due diligence, internal disciplinary procedures, and extensive consultations across our national and zonal structures,” Nwajiofor said.

He added that Sukubo was found guilty of declaring a parallel NYCN structure, issuing a dud cheque worth ₦200 million, and other actions considered a direct violation of the Council’s constitution and ethical standards.

In a further move to restore order, NYCN also suspended Amb. Innocent Nduanya and Abubakar Suleiman Esq., former factional Vice President and Secretary General respectively, over allegations of incompetence and for allegedly aiding Sukubo’s unconstitutional activities.

“There is no room for divisive elements in our ranks. Any further violation of the suspension terms will lead to indefinite expulsion,” the statement warned.

Following Sukubo’s expulsion, the Council announced Ambassador Solomon Adodo as the legitimate President of the unified NYCN.

In his acceptance speech, Adodo thanked Nigerian youth for their confidence in his leadership and pledged to steer the Council toward unity, transparency, and grassroots empowerment.

“We are grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Youth Development for their support. This marks a new chapter in the NYCN—a chapter of unity, accountability, and transformation,” Adodo stated.

He emphasized the Council’s commitment to partnering with the current administration to unlock youth development opportunities across Nigeria.

“The new NYCN is emerging stronger, more inclusive, and mission-driven. We are poised to deliver greater value across all 774 local governments, 36 states, and the FCT,” he said.

The Council also reaffirmed its dedication to promoting youth empowerment and national development, vowing to protect the integrity of its structures against any further attempt at destabilization.
