The UNITA Parliamentary Group (GPU) has expressed serious concern about the sanitary conditions at the Luanda Central Morgue (MCL), following a fact-finding visit on 14 April 2025. The group also called for greater transparency and accountability in public service management.

During a session in the Angolan National Assembly, UNITA parliamentarians reported encountering resistance from morgue staff and security personnel during their visit. They stated that access was only granted after invoking constitutional provisions that empower lawmakers to carry out oversight functions.

The party raised questions about alleged inefficiencies in facility management and called on authorities to investigate the situation and ensure that health and safety standards are upheld for both workers and the general public.

While addressing broader governance issues, UNITA reiterated its position on the need for continued efforts to promote integrity and good governance across all sectors. The group emphasized that transparency, fairness, and improved service delivery are essential for national development and public trust.

The parliamentarians noted that previous economic gains in the country had not translated into widespread improvements in living conditions. They highlighted that challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and poor public service delivery persist, especially in health and sanitation.

UNITA also encouraged constructive dialogue and institutional collaboration to strengthen Angola’s democratic processes and address long-standing concerns over public sector accountability.

The visit to the Luanda Central Morgue forms part of UNITA’s broader oversight role and ongoing efforts to monitor public institutions and advocate for improved standards in public health services.
