..as Otefe Polytechnic Prepares for Milestone Convocation

Oghara – The Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, is set to make history on May 31st, 2025, as it holds its 2nd combined convocation ceremony, an event that promises to be both memorable and symbolic.

Preparations for the occasion reached a crescendo this week, with the institution’s Rector, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, showering accolades on the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, describing him as a shining beacon of progress, unity, and inclusiveness.

Speaking at the start of the convocation ceremony held at the James Onanefe Ibori Auditorium in Oghara, Prof. Ufuophu-Biri likened Governor Oborevwori to “Ukodo,” which is the Governor ‘s traditional title, a beloved traditional dish in Delta State celebrated for its abundance and communal significance. According to the Rector, “Ukodo” symbolizes a shared experience of prosperity and unity—qualities he believes the governor embodies in his leadership. The governor’s anticipated presence at the convocation ceremony marks a significant milestone, as it will be his first official visit to the Polytechnic since he assumed office, coinciding with his second anniversary as the state’s helmsman.

In what promises to be a historic moment, Governor Oborevwori is not only expected to grace the event as the special guest and official visitor to the Polytechnic but will also commission several key projects on campus. Prof. Ufuophu-Biri revealed that some of these projects have been named in honor of the governor and other past leaders, reflecting the institution’s commitment to preserving the legacies of individuals who have contributed to Delta State’s development.

The ceremony also featured remarks from other dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Andrew Orugbo, and the Deputy Rector, Dr. Samuel Ogbogu.
