Bridge Africa Technologies has expressed satisfaction with Nigerian-born data scientist, Jane Onwuchekwa, for her contributions to the field of data science, particularly her development of OptiQ, an artificial intelligence, AI-driven query optimisation tool.
Onwuchekwa, a seasoned business intelligence engineer, recently won the 2025 BAT Award of Excellence in Data Innovation, an honour presented by Bridge Africa Technologies.
BAT committee in a statement said Onwuchekwa’s work on AI-powered systems like OptiQ reflected the forward-thinking mindset it sought to celebrate.
According to the committee, her technical impact and community leadership set a high bar for excellence.
OptiQ, a tool currently deployed at Amazon, has been lauded for reducing query execution times and driving significant cost savings. Designed to scale with large enterprise systems, it helps teams process data more efficiently, ultimately improving the speed and quality of organizational decision-making.
Speaking on the technology, the creator said: “My goal has always been to bridge the gap between raw data and real-world outcomes. With tools like OptiQ, we’re not just accelerating queries—we’re improving the decisions that shape global businesses.
“Representation matters. When young professionals see someone who looks like them solving problems at scale, it expands what they believe is possible. With the right data, mindset, and mentorship. We can solve some of the world’s toughest problems—and make room for others to rise.”
Her work cuts across critical sectors including healthcare, finance, education, and real estate, where she has developed predictive models that guide strategic planning, streamline operations, and influence high-level decisions.
Armed with a background in Mathematics and Computer Science, Onwuchekwa combines technical prowess with a clear vision for inclusive innovation. As the only Black woman on her team at Amazon, and a mother balancing career and family, she advocates for more representation in tech, particularly for women and minorities.
Beyond her day job, Onwuchekwa plays an active role in mentoring aspiring analysts and contributing to professional and faith-based communities that empower African professionals in the diaspora. Her leadership, rooted in empathy and excellence, continues to inspire a new generation of tech talents.
From building cutting-edge AI systems to championing diversity in tech, Jane Onwuchekwa is not only powering innovation, she is redefining what it means to lead in a data-driven world.
