Nigerian comedian and event host, Opeoluwa Campbell, popularly known as COWBELL, has emerged as a fresh voice in African comedy following a series of successful performances across the United Kingdom.
In a statement made available, COWBELL who has blended streetwise Nigerian humour with cross-cultural storytelling, noted that he has carved a niche for himself with audiences both at home and in the diaspora.
The statement reads: “From Lagos to London, he is becoming known not just as a stand-up act, but as a multi-talented performer redefining what it means to entertain across borders.
“People used to call me the comedian who never misses,” the statement said while reflecting on a journey that began in the lecture halls of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB.
According to the statement, “While his peers focused on engineering, Campbell found his passion behind the microphone, performing at campus events and building a cult following long before his name became widely known.
“Since graduating, COWBELL has shared the stage with some of Nigeria’s biggest comedy names, including Woli Agba, Remote, Woli Arole, and Destalker. “However, 2023 marked a turning point when he made a bold move to the United Kingdom. His standout performances in Remote’s “Out of Control” and Destalker’s “Laughter Crusade Tour” won over diverse audiences and earned him a reputation as one of the most exciting new acts in the diaspora comedy scene.
“From Manchester to London, his energetic delivery, Nigerian street slang, and cultural punchlines have made him a hit with audiences from various backgrounds.
“COWBELL didn’t just perform, he lit up the room,” said one attendee in London. “It was like being at a Lagos party in the middle of the UK.”
“In addition to stand-up, COWBELL has established himself as a nightlife curator, creating immersive experiences that blend comedy, music, fashion, and games. His signature events, The Mask Party, Sneaker Party, and Summer Picnic Party, have drawn large crowds in both Nigeria and the UK.
“His appeal also cuts across cultural lines, making him a preferred host for weddings, corporate functions, and traditional ceremonies.
“Whether it’s a Yoruba engagement or a Pakistani-Nigerian wedding, I bring the same energy. Entertainment has no borders.”
He noted: “More than just a performer, COWBELL sees his rising platform as a means to spotlight Nigerian creativity on the global stage.
“I’m not just here to make people laugh. I’m here to create paths and show the world what Nigeria has to offer. The dream is bigger than the joke.”
