Fashion review: Are Kpako’s materials truly sustainable and durable?

Fashion review: Are Kpako’s materials truly sustainable and durable?

By Segun Olaoke

When we talk about fashion today, one big question comes to mind: Is it good for the planet? This is very important because the environment we live in plays a big role in our existence. It is one thing to look good and slay, but that shouldn’t be done to the detriment of the planet. Looking good and saving the planet is where Wear Kpako stands out. The brand promises to make clothes that are both kind to the environment and strong enough to last. But how true is that?

Let’s be honest: many fashion brands use the words “eco-friendly” and “sustainable” like buzzwords. They sound nice, but do they really practice it in their designs? That’s what makes this topic important. We’re not just looking at how the clothes appear on the outside, but we would discover what they’re made of and how they hold up after use.

A brand that has promised sustainability in its production is Wear Kpako. Founded in 2018 by Tamilore Bashir Nwaobiara and Oluwatobiloba Adeniyi Oderinde, the brand says their clothes are made for people who live active lives – people who run, work out, and move around a lot. They also say their clothes are for chilling, hanging out, or attending work and school. That’s a lot to ask from one outfit, right? So, it makes sense to ask: Can their fabric do all that?
Another thing to consider is their promise to be sustainable. Are they living up to that standard? A lot of designers claim to practice sustainability in their designs. But it is not evident in their collection. Sustainability simply means using materials and methods that are not environmentally harmful. They are made in a way that helps the planet. Are materials recyclable? Do they break down over time without polluting the soil or water? These are the questions sustainability begs to answer.
Also, how long do the clothes last? Durability matters. If a hoodie looks cool but falls apart after a few washes, that does not help anyone. Durable clothes reduce waste. If you can wear something for years, you don’t need to throw it away quickly or buy more. That’s a good thing for the planet and your wallet.
Wear Kpako was built with the big idea of mixing fashion, comfort, and care for the earth. They focus on athleisure – clothing you can wear to the gym and around the environment. This is a growing trend, especially among younger people. But trends come and go. What remains is quality. And that’s what we are about to find out: Does Wear Kpako offer quality or just a great story for its brand? Are their fabrics just talk, or are they built to last and care for the environment? Let’s look at the 2022 collection release.

The sleeves of this design are well cut, full length, and slightly loose, which suits the denim fabric. They are tailored, clean, and even with neat cuff finishes. The neckline uses a standard shirt collar, giving the outfit structure. It fits well, which shows good design control.
The denim fabric is mid-weight, not too stiff, and gives comfort, but it is still strong enough to hold its shape. This makes the sleeve and neckline last longer with wear. From a durability point of view, this is a good choice. The fabric is high quality and will last a long time with proper care. This outfit’s styling won’t be a problem, and this is shown well by how differently the jackets were worn — one was buttoned, the other open, which gives the outfit contrast. The models’ hair and glasses match the vibe: street, fresh, but not overdone, which is a good fit for fashion shoots or music videos. The matching denim pants are clean, and the craftsmanship is what makes the outfit shine. The stitching is also clean without loose threads, and the buttons, as well, are firm and well-aligned. The designer paid attention during the production process, as the embroidery is neat and sits nicely on the fabric.
Still, there’s room to try out other creative approaches. A cropped neckline or an even asymmetric neckline would give it more personality. Adding a zip detail would offer flexibility and edge. Also, the brand should ensure clean production, with less dye waste and uncycled fabric. A pop of inner colour, like a T-shirt and a necklace, will fit perfectly, too.
Also, finishes like inner seams and lining aren’t visible here, and it is something the designer should highly consider. If they are rough or raw, it will affect the wearer’s comfort. A clean inside finish will show the premium quality of the attire. This is good for sales. Buyers who love this style would buy with compulsion because the design feels durable, and customers will get value when they buy.

For the next piece, the long sleeves on this jacket look sharp and clean. The stitching lines stand out nicely, which gives it a strong and edgy look. The sleeves fit well and aren’t too tight or baggy, which is great. A bold bandana covers the neckline, adding street style to the look. It’s a smart layering move that brings mystery and swagger.
The clean sleeve lines and covered neckline combo give a smooth and confident vibe. The outfit’s first impression shows boldness rooted in city life. The fabric’s colour is strong, and the gold-yellow details make the attire pop just enough to grab attention.
The background also adds a “wow” effect. It’s gritty, real, and urban, which makes the fashion feel raw and alive. A little flair on the jacket could push the wow effect even higher. It hits hard visually right now, but adding this single detail could take it from “cool” to “iconic.”
The styling here is solid. The outfit’s layers work together — the bandana, the matching cap, and the rings. It felt like everything was packed with care.
The black-on-black with gold accents keeps the look neat and powerful. The rings on both hands add a rebellious twist. And the cap worn backwards gives off a laid-back, confident mood.
The designer did a great job with the craftsmanship. The stitching is clean and straight, and the fabric looks sturdy and well-tailored. The gold logo patches are placed with intention and don’t feel random. It shows that the Wear Kpako brand took its time. Even the way the collar folds and the buttons sit tells us this piece wasn’t rushed. What’s fascinating about this wear is that it is made to last.
But here’s the thing: because of the bandana, we can’t see the jacket’s actual neckline. That’s a small drawback because people might want to know what the jacket looks like without the extra piece. While the bandana gives it street styling, it can also be worn without it on some days or occasions. Also, a bit of variety in sleeve design, like a zipper or embroidery near the wrist, could add more excitement.
The all-black palette might feel a bit too “safe.’’ Maybe swapping in a bold colour under the jacket, like a bright tee, or switching up the bandana for one with a bolder print could make the styling more fun. Also, switching out the pants or adding a standout bright colour shoe could break up the dark tone just a bit.
Another drawback of this outfit is the choice of colour, making the vibe very dark. While this can be sleek, it can feel flat, especially in photos. A brighter inner shirt can be worn alongside the jacket to fix this. Lighter pants or a standout accessory can change the feel of the entire styling.
Also, the button choices could be more creative, maybe branded or textured, to match the streetwear edge.
Conclusively, Wear Kpako’s collection depicts everything about sustainability. They aren’t just saying it in words but action everything into their design collections. From the choice of fabrics to the styling and everything accompanying the process, the designer is intentional. It isn’t hard to see that all of his hard work adds to the fashion paid off in delivering an exceptional collection.
