AKURE—THE student with the overall best result in Nigeria recently-released by the West African Examination Council, WAEC, and the National Examination Council, NECO, emerged from Ondo State.
She is Miss Tolulope Adeniyi, a student of St. Louis Girls’ Grammar School, Akure.
She had A1 in nine subjects and has been admitted to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife, to study Law.
The last result of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, showed that the state is among the five states whose students scored the highest marks.
Commissioner for Education, Mr. Remi Olatubora, who announced this in Akure, yesterday, said what the government of Dr. Olusegun Mimko, invested in education in the last three years had started yielding results.
He said that before the administration came on board, record showed that only 21 per cent of students in the state had five credits including English and Mathematics in WAEC/NECO, but has now risen to 35 per cent, noting that the intention of the government is to have 70 per cent before the end of tenure of the administration.
