WDU VC caution freshers on truancy and cultism

By Godwin Oghre

THE Senate of Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State, has passed a resolution which makes it mandatory for students of the university to have at least 75 per cent lecture attendance or risk the consequence of being disqualified from the institution’s examinations.

Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. S. Bamidele Sanni, made the disclosure weekend at the fifth matriculation ceremony of the university, held in the school auditorium at Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area.

Professor Sanni, who doubles as head of the Department of Basic and Industrial Chemistry said the Senate decision was not subject to any waiver, even if such has to come from the vice-chancellor of the university, since  “the Senate decision is supreme.”

While welcoming the matriculating students, the Acting VC told them to be disciplined, and never to be tempted to engage in anti-social activities, particularly cultism, warning that any student found to be involved in cultism will be shown the way out of the school.

The university matriculated a total of one hundred and thirty students, for its 2011/2012 academic session.
