MTN Nigeria last week kept to its promise of bringing relief and socour to indigent Nigerians under its Health portfolio- MTN Foundation, by graduating 25 genetic counselors at the 14th genetic counseling course at the Sickle Cell Foundation Idi-Araba, Lagos.
With this, the new counselors bring the total number of trained counselors to 209 from the inception of the training in 2006.
In his address at the occasion, a Director of the Foundation, Mr. Dennis Okoro said apart from churning out trained man power for counseling, MTN Foundation has been providing support for sickle cell clinics located in four major cities: Lagos, Edo, Delta and Kano States, by providing free drugs and counseling services.
Okoro noted that MTN Foundation’s interventions in the health sector are not limited to the campaign against the spread of sickle cell disorder as there are a number of other strategic initiatives being implemented in various parts of the country for the benefit of Nigerians.
”Aside from Health, the Foundation has implemented many social projects in the key areas of Education and Economic Empowerment across Nigeria. Today, we currently have about 319 project sites in the 36 states of the country, including Abuja,” he said.
