…As Chief Ovo Edewor Foundation Urges Vigilance, Fairness, and Equity in Nigeria’s Justice System

The Chairman of the Chief Ovo Edewor Foundation, Chief Dr. Ogheneovo Edewor, has called for the review of the detention of 15-year-old Qudir Yusuf Alabi, appealing to authorities to ensure justice and uphold the fundamental rights of all citizens, especially minors.

In a statement released on Sunday, April 13, 2025, and made available to journalists in Asaba, Delta State, Chief Edewor expressed concern over the reported detention of the teenager at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre and emphasized the importance of due process and transparency in the justice system.

While referencing public concerns surrounding the arrest of the teenager, Edewor urged the appropriate authorities to investigate the circumstances thoroughly and ensure that the minor is treated in accordance with national and international human rights standards.

“On behalf of my foundation, I express deep concern over reports of the detention of 15-year-old Qudir Yusuf Alabi. Every Nigerian citizen, especially minors, deserves fair treatment and legal protection under the law,” Edewor said.

He stressed that human rights are inalienable and should be upheld regardless of a person’s age, background, or beliefs.

“The justice system must ensure transparency and fairness. Detaining a minor without clear and publicly available information raises serious questions about due process,” he added.

Edewor, a former senatorial candidate, emphasized that the foundation stands for justice, equity, and the rule of law, and he urged civil society, legal advocates, and government institutions to work together in safeguarding the rights of vulnerable populations.

He concluded by calling for national vigilance in the protection of civil liberties and reiterated the foundation’s commitment to advocating for a just and equitable society.
