The Conference of Harmonized Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) has raised concerns over alleged plans by certain individuals in Abuja-based politics to sponsor protests against Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State.

In a statement signed by Mr. Joseph Uyeh, the group expressed their support for the Governor’s leadership, attributing the alleged attacks to his refusal to allow unethical practices in state governance.

The CSOs highlighted the Governor’s efforts in shifting from traditional practices, such as political patronage and money-sharing, which had previously dominated the state’s politics. The group emphasized that under Governor Alia’s administration, Benue State has made significant strides in governance, and they commended his focus on accountability and good governance.

The group also pointed out that Benue State has never experienced such forward momentum since the tenure of Apollos Aper Aku, and urged those planning to protest against Governor Alia to reconsider their actions, suggesting that they should reflect on the consequences.

The statement further noted that the Governor’s initiatives, including improvements in welfare, economic development, infrastructure, and accountability, have proven to be effective in the state. The CSOs expressed confusion over why these critics, if they truly had the support of the people, have not organized protests within the state rather than in Abuja.

The group acknowledged the Governor’s significant accomplishments in public service, including his efforts to enhance infrastructure and the welfare of citizens. They also praised Governor Alia for remaining committed to his principles and focusing on the long-term development of the state.

The CSOs condemned any attempts to undermine the Governor’s administration, stating that they would not be swayed by those who seek to destabilize the state. They also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their continued support of Governor Alia’s leadership in Benue State.
