LEADERS of Ethnic Communities Resident in Kano (LECRK), have petitioned Senate President,  Senator David Mark to prevail on the Kano State governor to stop the agency it set up to implement Sharia, under the name Hisbah from enforcing Sharia law on non-Muslims resident in the state.

The group argued  that it is not against the introduction of the Islamic law, but that the peaceful co-existence in the state should not be put at risk.

The group, in a petition  signed by Chief Tobia Micheal Idika, Sabongari Igbo Community Leader and Prince Femi Adegoroyen,   said, “ It  is pertinent that we  state clearly that we are  not  in  any way  against the implementation of Shari’ah as the back bone of government policies in Kano State in as much as it does not put at risk, the peaceful co-existence of all Nigerians resident in Kano State.

To us Shari’ah is a religious injunction laced around the strings of love, tolerance and respect for human dignity. Shariah strives to achieve a decent society devoid of error, rancour and bigotry.”

While lamenting that the activities of Hisbah constitute a threat to non-indegenes in the state, it called on the Kano State Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau to checkmate the activities of the agency.

“We are happy over the fragile peace we have experienced so far and it will be wise enough to take the bull by the horn to do everything possible to ensure that Hisbah is stopped from taking this state to Golgotha.

We feel it is high time the Kano State Governor, Mallam (Dr.) Ibrahim Shekarau stepped in and personally checkmate the activities of Hisbah men,” the group stated.
