Cool Fashion House showcases indigenous wears in latest collection

By Elizabeth Osayande

In the vibrant world of fashion, where heritage meets modernity, Cool Fashion House is making waves with its latest collection from DeeVee by CFH, a ready-to-wear line that celebrates indigenous textiles and designs. Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with the visionary CEO, Kate Kukoyi, who shared insights into the inspiration, challenges, and aspirations behind this notable collection.

At the heart of this new release lies a commitment to showcasing rich Nigerian heritage through fashion. Kukoyi highlighted the collection’s roots, saying, “We aimed to create pieces that make you look and feel good, despite harsh weather conditions. Our designs draw inspiration from vibrant original cotton prints, including traditional fabrics like Ankara, Adire, and our indigenous Asooke. These textiles are not just materials; they embody stories and cultural significance.”

The collection is thoughtfully curated with a diverse audience in mind. Kukoyi pointed out, “We’re appealing to young adults who appreciate bold colours and African prints. But we also cater to the aunties, mummies, uncles, and daddies who crave the rich, vibrant vibes of our heritage.” This inclusive approach reflects a desire to connect generations through fashion, making indigenous styles accessible to all.

However, the journey to bring this collection to life was not without its challenges. Kukoyi candidly discussed the obstacles faced during the creation process, particularly the recent hike in fabric costs and shortages in the market. “It’s been tough, but we’re grateful for the divine intervention that made it all possible,” she remarked, embodying a spirit of resilience that resonates deeply in the fashion industry.

Looking ahead, Kukoyi shared her vision for Cool Fashion House. “We aim to increase our visibility, production capacity, and distribution channels, making our clothes accessible globally. This will involve strategic partnerships, enhanced marketing efforts, and continuous innovation in our designs.” With such aspirations, Cool Fashion House is poised to become a key player on the global fashion stage, all while remaining rooted in its Nigerian identity.
