Over 2,000 residents of Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and its environs have benefited from a free medical outreach organized by the Seyi Tinubu Renewed Hope Youth Empowerment Initiative, in collaboration with local council authorities.
The outreach, held on Ojo Street, Obalende, over the weekend, provided free screenings for kidney disease, HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and eye conditions, along with blood sugar level tests and deworming treatments.
Additionally, 500 beneficiaries were enrolled in a one-year free health insurance scheme under the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), fully funded by the Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA.
Council Chairman Fuad Atanda-Lawal assured residents that the initiative aims to ease the financial burden of healthcare. He emphasized that 17 doctors, supported by medical personnel, were mobilized to ensure efficient service delivery, especially considering the ongoing Ramadan Fast and Lent season.
“There is no cause for concern about the continuity of the LASHMA free health insurance scheme, as payments have already been made and will be included in the handover notes for my successor,” Atanda-Lawal stated.
He also highlighted the broader vision of the Seyi Tinubu Renewed Hope Youth Empowerment Initiative, which includes vocational training for youths to enhance productivity and self-reliance.
Dr. Adebayo Akintayo, the council’s Medical Officer, stressed that a healthy population is essential for societal development, adding that the initiative aligns with the Tinubu-led federal government’s key objectives.
Dr. Samogha Dare, who led the medical team, reinforced the importance of healthcare investment, stating, “Health is wealth, and no investment in a healthy society is too much.”
Grateful residents commended the Seyi Tinubu Empowerment Initiative and the Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA for prioritizing healthcare. Many called for the continuation and expansion of the free medical outreach to other parts of Lagos, so more people can benefit.
