Port Harcourt – The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, has dismissed rumors of her resignation amid the ongoing political tensions in the state.

On Wednesday, the Office of the Deputy Governor refuted online reports suggesting that Professor Odu had stepped down.

In a statement signed by Owupele Benebo, Head of Press at the Deputy Governor’s Office, Odu reaffirmed her commitment to her role and to working alongside Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

“Contrary to these baseless claims, Her Excellency remains committed to her duties as Deputy Governor, a position she was duly elected to serve alongside His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the Executive Governor of Rivers State,” the statement read.

“As a seasoned public servant and academic, Prof. Odu is dedicated to supporting the Governor in his efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to the good people of Rivers State. Her exemplary leadership and expertise have been invaluable to the administration, and she remains steadfast in her commitment and support for His Excellency, Sir Dr. Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS.”

The statement urged the public to disregard the resignation rumors, labeling them as “malicious speculation.” It further clarified that Professor Odu “has not resigned and has no intention of doing so.”

Meanwhile, political tension in Rivers State remains high as the 48-hour ultimatum given by Speaker Martins Amaewhule for Governor Fubara to present the 2025 annual budget expires today. The next course of action by the 27 lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, remains uncertain.
