…Blames Incident on Institution’s Porous Security Architecture

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM) branch, has demanded the immediate release of the four female students abducted on campus. The union blamed the unfortunate incident on the porous security system of the university.

Reports indicate that the students were waylaid and kidnapped at about 8:30 PM on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, while heading to a lecture hall to study. The attack, carried out by unknown gunmen, sparked outrage among students, who called for swift action from authorities.

In a statement issued by ASUU-FUAM Chairman, Comrade Paul Anyagh, the union condemned the kidnapping in strong terms, describing it as a criminal act against innocent students.

“With what has happened, we are no longer sure of the safety of our members on campus. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. A member of our union was previously kidnapped at the university staff quarters. Although he was later released, it exposed the weak security on our campus.”

The union also recalled previous kidnap cases involving students, raising concerns about the security of both staff and students.

ASUU-FUAM has made the following demands:

Immediate and safe rescue of the kidnapped students by the university administration and security agencies.

Urgent improvement of the security architecture on campus to create a safe environment for teaching and learning.

Enhanced security measures to prevent further incidents and protect both students and staff.

“We stand in solidarity with our students and parents and hope for the safe release of the abducted students soonest.”

Despite the distressing situation, ASUU-FUAM urged its members to remain calm, expressing confidence that the university administration is making efforts to secure the campus and facilitate the safe return of the students.
