NYO’s Alamboye condemns protest against Amnesty programme administrator

…dismisses allegations of misappropriation

Abuja, Nigeria – President of the Nigerian Youth Organization (NYO) and convener of the National Security Summit under the Green against the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) under its current administrator, Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Alamboye described the protest as a “politically motivated distraction” aimed at misleading the public and creating unnecessary tension in the Niger Delta.

He urged the Federal Government, National Assembly, and security agencies to disregard the allegations against Dr. Otuaro.

“The protest is nothing but a deliberate attempt to destabilize the Niger Delta. Their claims do not reflect the true state of affairs in the region,” Alamboye stated.

He further dismissed allegations of financial misappropriation leveled against Dr. Otuaro, insisting that the PAP has remained transparent and focused on its mandate of reintegrating ex-agitators through education and vocational training.

“The Amnesty Programme under Dr. Otuaro has been running effectively. Instead of paying fictitious names and contracts, the focus is now on genuine empowerment. Thousands of Niger Delta youths are being trained both locally and abroad. It is unfortunate that some people want to derail this progress with false accusations,” he added.

Alamboye also accused those behind the protest of attempting to exploit the situation for personal gains, warning against further actions that could disrupt peace in the region.

“We must learn from our elders like Edwin Clark, who was a peacemaker and a true advocate for development. If there are concerns, they should be addressed through dialogue, not by heating up the polity with unnecessary protests,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Amnesty Office has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations.

However, sources within the agency insist that its financial operations remain transparent and in line with its mandate.

Alamboye called on stakeholders in the Niger Delta to support Dr. Otuaro’s leadership, emphasizing that the relative peace and increased oil production in the region are proof that the programme is yielding results.

“This is the first time in years that we have seen true coordination between the Amnesty Office, NDDC, and other agencies working for the Niger Delta. We cannot allow political distractions to take us backward,” he concluded.
