In its continued efforts to promote learning and combat drug abuse, Jeje Riders Nigeria, an international touring bikers group, has donated an E-Library and ICT Center to Government Secondary School, Kyan Rikko, Jos, Plateau State.
The commissioning of the ICT Center and E-Library was followed by an anti-drug abuse and peddling campaign in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Speaking at the event, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Cletus Shurkuk, praised Jeje Riders Nigeria for its remarkable corporate social responsibility. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ICT-driven development, citing the Plateau State Agro Innovation Market-Space and the Smart Education Initiative at Science School Kuru as examples.
Governor Mutfwang noted that Jeje Riders Nigeria’s initiative aligns with the government’s vision of leveraging technology for education and youth empowerment. He encouraged other organizations to emulate such efforts to foster digital literacy and combat social vices among students.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Ibrahim Tizhe, highlighted Jeje Riders Nigeria’s dedication to promoting education and raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
Tizhe emphasized that biking associations and clubs across the country are actively involved in community development projects.
“If you go around the country, you will see projects executed by bikers. These projects are funded from their pockets, with support from sponsors. For instance, the Mentalic Bull Riders in Lagos are currently renovating libraries across various schools in Lagos,” Tizhe stated.
He further listed some of Jeje Riders Nigeria’s contributions, including:
Food donations during the 2021 flood disaster in Jigawa State
Provision of heart-saving equipment to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital and 44 Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna
ICT centers and E-Libraries in Gombe, Jigawa, and Adamawa States
Integrated water projects in Zamfara State
He emphasized that the group’s focus is on youth development, which is why it partnered with the Plateau State Government to establish the ICT Center and E-Library in Jos.
Tizhe explained that the NDLEA officially endorsed the anti-drug campaign under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd.).
“Our youth development efforts have two key aspects: first, equipping students with modern learning tools like this ICT Center and E-Library. Second, ensuring that they are protected from the harmful effects of drug abuse,” he stated.
He stressed that if young people become involved in drug abuse, their future development is hindered, leading to stalled or destroyed potential.
“We don’t want that to happen. We want a great Nigeria for all of us. We want them to fulfill their potential,” he added.
Tizhe urged students to maximize the use of the provided infrastructure and apply the lessons from the anti-drug workshop. He also called on teachers to support students in their education and moral development.
The Plateau State NDLEA Commander, Anthony Gotar, assured that the agency remains committed to protecting schools and communities from drug abuse.
He reaffirmed the NDLEA’s dedication to working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that drug traffickers targeting young people are brought to justice.
The Principal of Government Secondary School, Kyan Rikko, Mrs. Rahila Dafyak, expressed her deep appreciation to Jeje Riders Nigeria and the biking community for their support. She specifically thanked them for the multi-million-naira ICT infrastructure donated to the school.
She also called on the Plateau State Government to erect a perimeter fence and entrance gate to secure the new learning facilities.
Facilitators at the Drug Abuse Awareness Campaign included NDLEA officials and professionals from the Nigerian Biking Community.
Sponsors of the Students Anti-Drug Abuse Campaign included:
Flour Mills of Nigeria (Golden Penny)
