Awka – A prominent chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State and governorship aspirant, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, has announced his resignation from the party.
In a statement personally signed by him, Ozigbo described his decision as a “bold step for Anambra’s future,” signaling a new direction in his political journey.
His exit did not come as a surprise, as there had been speculation that he was planning to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he contested the 2021 Anambra governorship election.
Ozigbo revealed that he officially submitted his resignation letter to his ward chairman during a State Executive Committee meeting of the Labour Party in Awka. He also informed the party’s national chairman and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of his decision as a gesture of respect.
Explaining his reasons for leaving, Ozigbo said, “Recent events have made one thing clear: the time has come for us to build something new, something bold, something that speaks to the hopes and aspirations of every Anambra son and daughter.”
He emphasized that his political journey is driven by a vision to deliver compassionate and people-centered leadership, stating that his commitment to serving the people of Anambra remains unwavering.
“This is not a moment of uncertainty—it is a moment of celebration, renewed strength, and boundless possibilities,” he added, urging his supporters to remain resolute as he pursues a new path focused on the progress and transformation of the state.
Ozigbo’s resignation has further fueled speculation about his potential return to the PDP ahead of the 2025 Anambra governorship election.
