Nigerian striker, Bamidele Yusuf, has set his sights on scoring more goals in the remainder of the season and, possibly, top the scorers’ chart after netting his 10th goal of the season in the Serbian topflight.

Yusuf scored his 10th goal of the season for Vojvodina in their 1-1 draw away at FK Železničar Pančevo on Monday night.

He opened the scoring 30 minutes into the game and his goal almost propelled Vojvodina to a priceless away win but the hosts snatched a point in stoppage time through Petar Gigic’s equaliser. However, the result was good enough for them to move up to fifth in the table with 33 points.

Now on 10 goals, the 23-year-old sits second behind Red Stars’ Cherif Ndiaye who has 14 goals this season on the league’s scorers chart, and the Nigerian has set a target of reaching the top of the chart.

“I have big chances to become the top scorer of the league this season. I just need to keep working hard game by game and after the end of the season, we will see,” he said.

“I am very happy with what was done and there is no better feeling than when you are full of strength to continue the season.”

Aside from his 10 goals, Yusuf also has two assists this season and his goal contributions in the Serbia topflight rank him among the highest-scoring Nigerians in Europe.

Only Victor Osimhen (14 league goals) and Tolu Arokodare (15 league goals) have scored more than Yusuf (10) this season.

Yusuf plays as a left winger, but he can also cover the position behind the attacker, making him an additional reinforcement and competition for his club and the Super Eagles – if he gets a call-up.

Thanks to his impact, his club have moved to fifth in the Serbian topflight with 33 points after 23 games.

Yusuf joined Vojvodina as their sixth signing in the summer of 2024 from Radnički Niš, where he spent six months, and showed quality with an impressive return of six goals and five assists in 16 matches.

Before arriving in Serbia, this Nigerian player played for Portuguese side Estoril and Spartak Trnava in Slovakia where he first plied his trade after arriving in Europe from Nigeria in 2020.
