This year’s Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025, witnessed the unveiling of Oladipupo Deborah’s new book, “Why Men Should Never Get Married”.
The collection, which features 17 compelling stories that confront urgent and complex societal themes, such as paternity fraud, drugs and alcoholism, family planning, kidnapping, parental absence, and the struggles faced by survivors of abuse, with a focus on mental health, shines a light on critical issues often left unspoken.
A multi-talented writer, poet, and artist manager, Deborah, in her previous poetry work, “Unborn, Where Will They Hide”, reflected on our collective irresponsibility, and now she continues her mission to address difficult topics that affect many people.
In “Why Men Should Never Get Married,” she presents stories with powerful titles like “It’s My Wife, It Is Your Child” and “God Does Not Forgive,” dedicating it to a close friend who faced the profound decision of fathering another man’s child.
Her narratives highlight the implications of parental absence and the struggles of managing family planning.
Deborah also addresses the pervasive issue of kidnapping and the law(s) surrounding gender identity, illustrating the fears and dangers families encounter.
She challenges societal norms and urges readers to consider the implications of these issues on individuals and families alike.
In addition to her writing, Deborah has made remarkable contributions to Nigerian art, having named over 50 paintings for artists featured in exhibitions across Lagos, California, London, and South Africa.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arts (Education) and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree. Alongside her creative strength, she serves as the Chief Compliance Officer at a real estate company, is a proud member of the Compliance Institute, and is an alumna of the EDC at Lagos Business School, where she earned a Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management.
