Delta State Civil Servants were recently presented with the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the 2004 Pensions Reforms Act to enlighten and educate them on the workings of both schemes.

At an enlightenment seminar on the compulsory Group Life Assurance Scheme, a consortium of leading life insurance companies in Nigeria recently took the Group Life Assurance Scheme to the Civil Service of Delta State.

In a statement to Vanguard, Mr. Teju Ogunjimi, Executive Director of CrystaLife Assurance Plc, the lead underwriter of the Scheme made the presentation to the civil servants.

The program was declared open by Mr. Okey Ofili, the Head of Service for Delta State. While giving the opening remark, Mr. Ofili mentioned that the enlightenment Seminar is a welcome development; he further expressed his excitement at the initiative and mentioned that representatives were drawn from several parastatals across the State.

He implored the assurers to hold such programs at periodic intervals in a bid to enlighten the Civil Service of the benefits of the Scheme. He also expressed the Executive Governor’s appreciation to the organisers of the event.

The questions and answers session anchored by Mr. Femi Inubile of Unic Insurance Plc provided solutions to issues that were of concern to the participants. Some of the focuses of the session were enquiries about the documents necessary for redeeming claims as well as the relationship between claims settlement and the retirement savings accounts of the PFAs.

The seminar was also an avenue for the civil servants to break the ice on Annuity products and the contributory pensions program. In addition, the seminar was an avenue to provide a feedback on the quality of service that the consortium of assurers offered.

The participants at the training appreciated the organisers of the program for the initiative. They were particularly impressed with the response to their enquiries. Mrs. Rachael Emenike of UBA Metropolitan gave the closing remarks and vote of thanks on behalf of all the assurers on the scheme.

She appreciated the participants for the interaction and reaffirmed the commitment of all the assurers to continue to add value to them.
