Nokterra art auction for Ekefrey

In a bid to actualize its dream to elevate the documentation and valuation of art, Tribes Art Africa is set to declare the 3rd Nokterra Vintage/Contemporary art auction open with  the  artist estate sale of the entire collection of Emmanuel Ekefrey and other collections from the art house.

The auction sales which is packaged by Tribes Art Gallery, Lekki, Lagos is scheduled to hold  on 26th March at Marmundo Restaurant, Olosa Street, Off Karimu Kotun Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

In a chat with Vanguard Art,  the chief promoter of the event, Rodney Askhia, disclosed that they are putting up for sale some rare Ekefrey pieces among other works under the hammer in their current offer of 101 lots.

Continuing, he stated that “works on display are some of the ones Ekefery produced and exhibited in Nigeria and other parts of the world from 1985 when he held his first solo show through 2008, when his last exhibition was recorded and the purpose is to assist the artist who is battling with ill health.”  “For the 101 lots, 70% of the works will be the works of Ekefrey while 40% will be  works from our collection.”He added.

Askhia also disclosed that the preview of the works began last week and will run till 25th while the live auction will take place on 26th. The organisers has lined up special events preceding the auction, which includes: Eko Pre Art Auction Appraisal dinner which started on 8th and will end on 12th, Diplomatic Pre Art Auction  Appraisal dinner holds March 15 through March 19 while . Presidential Pre Art Auction Appraisal forum of March 22 – 25 , the Live Auction is scheduled for 5pm to 10pm on 26th.

According to Askhia, the preview will afford art lovers from all walks of life the opportunity to see the works of the Akwa Ibom state born artist who braced the Nigerian art market with his magical big pictures before the live auction.

The art auction house is currently overseeing the entire art collection of the renowned artist and it is on that basis  that they are holding the auction under its Artist Estate Sales programme,  and it will present art collectors an “opportunity to acquire with signed provenance, documented… works of art which have been consigned” with proper record.

Emmanuel Ekong Ekefrey is a self trained internationally reputable Nigeria artist widely exhibited locally and globally and the auction will afford art collectors the opportunity to acquire some of his works. Some of the works celebrates the culture of his people Ibibio, like the music, dance and language and Ekefrey’s paintings reflect their life as well as that of the gigantic Lagos metropolis.

He paints with humour, urban masquerades, and scenes from everyday life at the crossroad of different human destinies. His works are a tangle of form, figure lines and colours that produces an impression of extra ordinary dynamism.

Ekefrey has exhibited in  many local and international exhibitions. Some of these include his show in Alliance Franchise, Nimbus Gallery, Signature Gallery, Goethe Institut, Lagos, ELF Port-Harcourt and Venetian Gallery Madrid, Spain.

Tribes Art Africa / Nokterra Auction House are also art gallery owners and connoisures with interests in art sales, storage and display of artifacts, auctioneering, evaluation, valuation and artist management inform that the auction of our existing and prospective clientele.

Askhia further disclosed that apart from the auction, that the  gallery will be participating in Art Monaco holding from 5th – 8th in Monaco with the works of three Nigerian artists, Emmanuel Ekefrey, Joseph Eze and Tina Ezenma.
