Africa, particularly several African countries, is expected to grow economically in 2025, with some nations leading the way in terms of GDP growth and development.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) shows if an economy is growing or shrinking – with a growing GDP meaning more jobs, while a shrinking one signaling economic issues.

GDP, which measures the total value of all goods and services a country produces in a year, includes four parts: consumption, investment, government spending, and net exports.

Here are the five African countries expected to have the highest GDP growth in 2025, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

5. Uganda – 7.5%

Uganda’s economy is expected to grow by 7.5% in 2025. This growth is driven by investments in infrastructure, energy, and agriculture. Uganda’s oil industry is also starting to grow, creating jobs and increasing revenue for the country.

4. Sudan – 8.3%

Sudan is 4th among African countries projected to have an annual GDP growth of 8.3%. The country is working to improve its economy despite political and economic challenges. Agriculture remains a key part of Sudan’s economy, and efforts to modernise farming are helping boost productivity and growth.

3. Senegal – 9.3%

Senegal’s GDP is set to grow by 9.3%, making it one of the fastest-growing economies in West Africa. This is thanks to new oil and gas discoveries and ongoing investments in infrastructure. Senegal’s stable government and location as a trade hub also contribute to its economic success.

2. Libya – 13.7%

Libya’s economy is expected to grow by 13.7% in 2025. This growth is mostly due to the country’s large oil reserves.

1. South Sudan – 27.2%

South Sudan is projected to have the highest GDP growth in Africa, at 27.2%. This growth comes as the country works to rebuild its economy after years of conflict. South Sudan’s oil industry plays a big role in this progress. Recent peace agreements are helping attract investment, but challenges like poor infrastructure and political instability remain.
