…Says Victims Deserve Compensation

ABUJA: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths and injuries caused by an accidental military airstrike in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa villages of Silame Local Government Area, Sokoto State.

In a statement issued yesterday by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party extended condolences to the people of Sokoto State and the affected families.

The PDP called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences. Hon. Ologunagba stated:

“After an analysis of the reports of the mistaken airstrike, the PDP demands an urgent, system-wide investigation into the tragic incident to further guarantee the protection and safety of civilians in the fight against terrorism in the country.”

The party referenced similar incidents in Kaduna State in December 2023 and September 2024, stressing the need for proactive measures to avoid such calamities.

The PDP also urged the Federal Government to compensate the families of those who lost their lives and ensure proper medical care for the injured. Ologunagba added:

“Our Party condoles with the families of the victims of this sad incident and calls on the Federal Government to take necessary steps to compensate the bereaved families and provide adequate medical attention for the speedy recovery of the wounded.”

While advocating for increased professionalism, the PDP encouraged the military to continue its patriotic efforts in combating terrorism. The party reaffirmed its support for the fight against terrorism while emphasizing the importance of safeguarding civilian lives.

Reports indicate that dozens of civilians were killed during an airstrike targeting terrorists in Lukarawa. However, military authorities have denied responsibility for the civilian deaths, attributing the disaster to explosive devices allegedly owned by the terrorists.

The PDP’s demand for accountability and compensation highlights the urgency of addressing the collateral damage suffered by innocent civilians in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
